Anomabo Market Traders Appeal To MCE For Essential Facilities Amidst Roadside Sales.

Market traders in Anomabo, located within the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, have expressed their gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, for his efforts in consolidating traders within the main market.

However, they are now urgently appealing for further support, specifically requesting the provision of market shells and the completion of vital toilet facilities.

While acknowledging the MCE’s success in bringing vendors into the designated market space, traders highlighted the persistent challenge of insufficient stall occupancy.

Many find themselves relegated to selling their wares along the roadside and in front of the market yard, leading to significant difficulties.

“When the sun shines directly on us, it’s unbearable,” shared one trader, who preferred to remain anonymous.

“And when the rains come or the wind blows strongly, we struggle to protect our goods and even our own comfort. We need proper shells to shield us.”

The lack of adequate covered spaces not only impacts the traders’ working conditions but also poses a risk to their merchandise.

The current setup leaves them vulnerable to the elements, making daily sales a constant battle against nature.

Adding to their concerns, the traders also implored MCE Acquah to expedite the completion and commissioning of the market’s toilet facilities.

They described the current situation as a source of embarrassment and discomfort, noting that the lack of proper sanitation often leads to unsanitary practices.

“It’s a disgrace when people have nowhere to go and are forced to relieve themselves in inappropriate places,” another trader lamented. “We are asking for our dignity and a cleaner environment for everyone.”

The market women’s plea underscores the critical need for infrastructure development to support their livelihoods and ensure a more conducive and dignified trading environment in Anomabo.

They are hopeful that the MCE will address these pressing issues promptly.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, has pledged to commission new toilet facilities.

The MCE addressed concerns about the prolonged wait, explaining that the timing of the project is intricately linked to the ongoing, large-scale road construction in the area.

Hon. Acquah acknowledged the community’s frustration and expressed his commitment to their well-being.

However, he pointed out the practical challenges of initiating the toilet facility project amidst the current roadworks.

“Starting this now would be like building a house during a hurricane,” he metaphorically explained.

“The resources we pour in would likely be wasted as the construction crews move through. It’s crucial we wait for the major road push to subside to avoid financial folly.”

He revealed that the project was originally slated for an earlier start, possibly by early next month.

However, the sheer scale of the road construction, which he described as a “big push” that will “scatter everything,” necessitated a strategic postponement.

This approach, he stressed, is to ensure the new facilities are built efficiently and can serve the community without immediate damage or disruption.

He promise to commission the toilet facilities comes as a welcome relief, aiming to put an end to the current “disgrace” of inadequate sanitation that has plagued the market area.

The MCE urged for continued patience, assuring that the completion of the roadworks will pave the way for the swift inauguration of the much-needed amenities.
