Ghana Gas Appeals For Tariff Increase To Maintain Plant Efficiency.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, Judith Adjobah Blay, has called for a tariff adjustment to enable the company sustain its operations and maintain efficiency at its Gas Processing Plant (GPP) in Atuabo.
She made the appeal when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy visited the facility to gain firsthand insight into the operations of the plant and its contribution to the country’s energy sector.
According to Madam Blay, it is necessary for Ghana Gas to engage the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to justify certain expenditures and investments being made to improve the plant’s performance.
She explained that while a slight adjustment in tariffs may lead to a marginal increase in the cost of power, the consequences of inadequate funding for operations and maintenance could be far more severe, potentially affecting energy supply nationwide.
Madam Blay revealed that the plant recently experienced a temporary shutdown after a Central Processing Unit (CPU), a critical component of the plant’s automation system, malfunctioned.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Parliament’s Energy Committee Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah commended Ghana Gas for its performance and the professionalism demonstrated by its staff.
According to him, the Committee’s visit was to obtain firsthand information on the processing and production of gas, and members were impressed with what they observed.
The Chairman assured management and staff of the Committee’s support, emphasizing that Parliament would ensure that laws governing Ghana Gas are fully implemented and that its core mandate is protected.
