Ashanti Region Fire Cases Drop — But Attacks On Firefighters Raise Alarm.

The Ashanti Regional Fire Command has reported 348 fire incidents in the first quarter of 2026, a decline from 385 cases recorded in the same period last year.

Despite the reduction, the Command says attacks on fire officers during emergency responses continue to hinder firefighting efforts across the region.

Speaking to Bullet News reporter, Sofoba Kwame Afrifah, on the sidelines of the grand finale of the inter-market quiz in Kumasi, Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Peter Tetteh, said the service will intensify public education campaigns and urged residents to support rather than attack fire officers during emergencies.

The Ghana National Fire Service also plans to scale up fire education in markets to reduce incidence of market fire outbreaks.

He said, the inter-market quiz competition is designed to equip traders with practical skills to control fires at their early stages they escalate.

Some participants who couldn’t hide their excitement also shared their thoughts when speaking to Sofoba Kwame Afrifah.
