Amenfi Central Residents Appeal To Lands Minister Over Military Operation, Alleged Rights Violations.

Residents of Amenfi Central in the Western Region are appealing to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission to intervene in an ongoing military operation, which they say is infringing on their rights.
According to the residents, the operation by the National Anti-illegal mining Operations Secretariat (“NAIMOS) taskforce has led to the deaths of two people, with several machines and properties destroyed or burnt.
They stated that they are all supporters of the NDC and voted overwhelmingly for the party in the last elections to gain power.
“Hon. Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, please have mercy on the miners in Amenfi Central.
For the past 3 days, soldiers have not allowed us to sleep or work peacefully.
We are suffering too much,” one resident said.
“Many machines and properties are being destroyed and burnt, causing heavy losses to hardworking people trying to survive.
We sacrificed and worked hard to help win this seat, and we are pleading for understanding, fairness, and dialogue instead of destruction. Please intervene and bring peace to Amenfi Central.”
The residents are calling for dialogue and a more measured approach to address illegal mining concerns without causing further loss of life and property.
