Two Dead, Eight Injured In Dompoase Crash On Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.

Two people lost their lives and eight others were injured in a road traffic crash at Dompoase near Komenda on the Cape Coast–Takoradi highway in the Central Region on the friday evening 31 July 2026.

The Komenda Fire Station rescue team was dispatched and arrived at the scene, where personnel found a Toyota Hiace (registration AS 6145–24) that had collided with a broken-down truck (registration GN 2491–14).

Two occupants of the Hiace were trapped inside the vehicle. First responders extricated one of the trapped victims, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. A second fatality was also confirmed.

Preliminary reports indicate ten people had been travelling in the minibus.
Eight other occupants suffered varying degrees of injury, three of them critically, and were taken to the Elmina Polyclinic by the National Ambulance Service for treatment.

Central Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service, Assistant Division Officer I Abdul Wasiu Hudu, said the crash followed an attempted overtaking manoeuvre by an unidentified vehicle travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.

The Hiace, travelling in the opposite direction from Cape Coast towards Takoradi, reportedly swerved to avoid the oncoming vehicle and collided with the broken-down truck.

ADOI Wasiu Hudu urged motorists to exercise patience and extra caution on the roads to help prevent similar tragedies.
Investigations into the circumstances leading to the collision are ongoing.
