A structures of the Ashanti Regional Seed Processing Center have been demolished this morning by traditional leaders of Denkyemuoso.
The demolition took place at about 10:20am at the center’s site in Denkyemuoso.
According to reports, the traditional leaders of Denkyemuoso carried out the exercise, citing ownership and a court ruling in their favor over the land as the reason for their action.
In an interview with our news reporter, Sofoba Kwame Afrifah, the Officer in charge, Mr. Joseph Conney, said the demolishing will cause a lot of problems to them and the farmers who depend on them for seedlings.
The Ashanti Regional Seed Processing Center plays a key role in the production and distribution of improved seeds to farmers across the region. The demolition has therefore raised concerns among stakeholders in the agriculture sector.
Some of the affected traders shared their difficulties they will go through after the demolishing during an interview with Sofoba Kwame Afrifah.
Officials from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture are yet to comment on the incident. However, some workers at the center say the sudden demolition has disrupted ongoing seed processing activities.
