Atwima Mponua District Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce Storms Botrampa Area Over Illegal Mining Activities In The District.

The Atwima Mponua District Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce undertook a major operation within the Offin Shelterbelt, particularly around the Botrampa area, following reports of illegal mining activities and the invasion of the forest reserve by persons engaged in unlawful mining.
The operation saw the Taskforce conduct raids on several makeshift structures and settlements within the area, leading to the arrest of a number of persons suspected to be involved in illegal mining activities.
This decisive action forms part of our intensified efforts to protect the Offin Shelterbelt and other forest reserves and water bodies within Atwima Mponua from activities that threaten our environment, water resources and the future of our communities.
We have also actively enlisted the support and cooperation of Nananom, traditional authorities and community leaders in this fight. Their knowledge of the communities and traditional authority will be critical in identifying, preventing and reporting illegal activities within our forests.
Our fight against illegal mining is not a fight against legitimate livelihoods; it is a fight against the reckless destruction of our natural resources and the criminal exploitation of our forests and water bodies.
We will continue to work with the Forestry Commission, traditional authorities, security agencies and local communities to reclaim and protect our forests.
I commend the members of the District Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce for their courage, dedication and commitment.
The Offin Shelterbelt belongs to all of us. We must protect it today to secure tomorrow.
