Presidents Mahama Announces $2 Billion Ready For Accra – Kumasi Expressway; Deploys Military Engineers.

The President of the republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama has announced that government has secured funding for the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

Speaking at Kwaso in the Ejisu Municipality during the handing over of the Right-of-Way clearance for the project, President Mahama disclosed that the Minister of Finance has set aside $2 billion in a special account at the Bank of Ghana to finance the project.

According to the President, the money is readily available and all certificates presented by the contractor will be paid instantly, so funding will not be a challenge.

He stressed that the money is not a loan but Ghanaian taxpayers’ money, and assured that the full amount for the completion of the project will be available by the end of the year.

“I have asked the Minister of Roads and Highways to incorporate the Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces as a major sub-contractor to the main contractor on this Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

We have also asked the Minister to deploy you to establish the Right-of-Way and begin to clear the Right-of-Way for the Greater Accra Ring Road.

The President further disclosed that government has imported a lot of steel components to bridge various streams and rivers across the country and has directed the Minister of Roads and Highways to identify all sites and involve the Ghana Armed Forces to install the steel bridges.
