Presidents Mahama Cut Sod For $2 Billion Accra – Kumasi Expressway Before End Of Year.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government will cut sod for the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway before the end of the year.

Speaking at Kwaso in the Ejisu Municipality during the Handing Over of the 175.6km Right-of-Way Clearance for the project, President Mahama said government has already advertised an Expression of Interest for the project and given companies four weeks to apply.

“We have currently issued the Expression of Interest, it has been advertised and we have given four weeks for companies interested in the construction to express their interest.

After they express their interest, we will do the pre-qualification and then in an express manner we will select the contractor.

It is my expectation that we will return here before the end of the year and come and cut the sod for work on the Expressway to start,” President Mahama announced.

The President disclosed that the Minister of Finance has set aside $2 billion in a special account at the Bank of Ghana to finance the project, stressing that the money is readily available and will not be a challenge.

“Let me announce that the Minister of Finance has put aside $2 billion for financing this Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

The money is ready, it is sitting in a special account at the Bank of Ghana. So when this project starts, money is not going to be the problem.

President Mahama explained that the end of the Expressway will connect with the Orbital Road currently being constructed by Arab Contractors.

Heavy-duty trucks will turn right to continue their journey via the Orbital, while small cars can use an interchange to enter the city.

He also directed the Minister of Roads and Highways to incorporate the Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces as a major sub-contractor and to deploy them to clear the Right-of-Way for the Greater Accra Ring Road, adding that government has imported steel components to bridge rivers and streams across the country.

Meanwhile Kwasohene Nana Osei Fosu Adutwum expressed their profound gratitude to the president of the republic of Ghana for fulfilling his promises
