Assin Dompim Two Suspects Remanded For Allegedly Killing Brother
The Assin Fosu District Court in the Central Region, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, has remanded two suspects, Samuel Arkoh, 32, and Kwame Appiah, 48, into police custody for their alleged involvement in the killing of Kwadwo Nyarko in the Kakum Forest near Assin Dompim.
The suspects will spend two weeks in police custody and are expected to reappear on February 4, 2025, to allow the police to conduct further investigations.
According to Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo, the prosecutor, the complainant,
Samuel Boateng, a retired Warrant Officer 1, reported his brother’s disappearance on April 8, 2024. Kwadwo Nyarko, who was said to be a farmer and hunter, had gone to his farm but failed to return home.
After the report, the family launched a search for Kwadwo Nyarkoh, but all efforts to find his whereabouts proved unsuccessful.
It wasn’t until April 30, 2024, that the police found Kwadwo’s skeletal remains in the bush near Nfantihene village near Assin Dompim. A single-barrel gun, cutlass, and hunting torchlight were discovered beside the remains.
The remains were inspected, photographed, and conveyed to the hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead.
Nine months later, on January 17, 2025, the complainant informed the police that Samuel Arkoh, aka OB, had allegedly shot and killed Kwadwo during a hunting expedition, and realizing the consequences of the crime, the suspect Arkoh reportedly shot Kwadwo again to prevent him from revealing his identity.
The suspect then allegedly informed his friend Kwame Appiah about the incident and asked for his help in moving the body to prevent detection to which Appiah complied with the request.
According to the prosecution, Samuel Arkoh and Kwame Appiah have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and murder.
The police are continuing their investigation into the matter, and the suspects will reappear in court on February 4, 2025.
