WASSCE Teenage Pregnancy Cases Among Candidates In Berekum East And West Decreased This Year – Education Director.

Mr. David Owusu Ansah, the Director of Education for the Berekum East and West Directorates, has observed that the ongoing West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has resulted in a notably lower incidence of teenage pregnancies among candidates within the Berekum East and West Assemblies. This development is seen as a sign of hope and encouragement compared to previous trends.
He made this observation during visits to various WASSCE centers in Berekum East and West, accompanied by the monitoring team, to assess the progress of the ongoing examinations.
According to the Education Director, the rate of pregnancies among female students has significantly decreased.
The Directorates, along with relevant stakeholders, will intensify their efforts to ensure that senior high school students remain dedicated to their studies for a brighter future.
Mrs. Monica Oforiwah Asiedu, the Headmistress of Berekum Methodist Senior High School, remarked that completing Senior High School does not signify the conclusion of one’s educational journey.
She emphasized that there are numerous opportunities for educational advancement following the WASSCE.
Therefore, students should not focus on engaging in examination malpractice but should instead ensure they are well-prepared before entering the examination hall.
She said the teachers have implemented significant measures to protect students from having their examination papers canceled due to malpractice, and effective monitoring has been put in place to eradicate examination malpractice among candidates.
She further stated that students undergo thorough searches before being permitted entry into the examination hall, with strict warnings issued against bringing mobile phones and other unauthorized materials to exams hall to prevent the cancellation of entire examination papers and to avoid any future repercussions following the examination.
