Mfantseman Works And Engineering Department Undertakes Decongestion Exercise At Mankessim Ansa Park Warn Traders Selling On Roadside.
The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly’s Works and Engineering Department has embarked on a decongestion exercise at the Mankessim Ansa Park warn traders selling on roadside to help improve safety and prevent accidents at the busy transport terminal.
The exercise, which took place on Friday, September 18, 2026, was led by the Head of the Works and Engineering Department, Engineer Abdulai Kaleem, together with officials from the department.
Speaking in an interview with Douglas Oyiboh Amponsah, Engineer Abdulai Kaleem explained that the Ansa Park serves as a major transport station where passengers board vehicles to various destinations.
However, he said portions of the station had gradually been turned into trading areas, with some individuals putting up containers, tables and other structures along pathways meant for pedestrians and vehicles.
According to him, the obstruction had created serious safety concerns because vehicles leaving the station sometimes had limited visibility of the road ahead.
He noted that the situation could result in vehicles knocking down pedestrians, particularly children.
Engineer Kaleem stressed that the exercise was not carried out without prior engagement.
He explained that discussions had been held with affected persons before the exercise commenced, contributing to the peaceful nature of the operation.
He further assured traders whose structures were removed that the Assembly would work towards providing them with more appropriate spaces within the station where they could continue their businesses without obstructing vehicular and pedestrian movement.
Engineer Kaleem appealed to residents of Mfantseman to cooperate with the Assembly and support measures aimed at improving the municipality’s development.
He added that residents should expect significant changes in Mfantseman by December as the Assembly intensifies efforts to improve the municipality.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of the Cooperative Union, Mr. Emmanuel Nyame, popularly known as Chairman Koose, commended the exercise, describing it as an important step towards preventing possible disasters.
He said the exercise could ultimately benefit the affected traders because some of the locations they occupied were, in his view, unsafe for trading activities.
He also gathered claims that some of the spaces occupied by traders may have been allocated by certain individuals who allegedly collected amounts ranging from GH¢3,000 to GH¢4,000 from some occupants.
However, these claims have not been independently verified.
He therefore calls for a proper investigation by the appropriate authorities to establish the facts surrounding the alleged payments and determine whether any individuals unlawfully allocated public spaces or collected money from traders.
The decongestion exercise forms part of efforts to restore order at the Ansa Park, improve the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, and enhance safety for commuters, traders and other users of the facility.
