Suame Spare Parts Dealers Association Calls For Duty Reduction And Flat Rate Implementation

The Suame Spare Parts Dealers Association has urged the government to reduce duties at Ghana’s ports and consider implementing a flat rate duty structure in the mid-year budget.

According to the association’s chairman, Mr. Godfred Adu, the high cost of duties is negatively impacting their business. Despite the cedi’s recent appreciation, duties at the ports remain high, affecting the spare parts industry.

Speaking at a press briefing in Suame Magazine, Ashanti Region, Mr. Adu explained that commercial drivers often accuse them of high spare part costs due to the elevated port duties.

He emphasized that the government had promised to address this issue during their campaign, and it’s essential to reflect the cedi’s appreciation in the port duties.

The association is appealing to the government to reduce duties at the ports and include a flat rate structure in the mid-year budget statement.

This move would help alleviate the financial burden on spare parts dealers and promote growth in the industry.
