Kasoa Council Of Local Churches Call On Govt. For Urgent Sanitation Measures To Prevent Cholera Outbreak, Flooding.

The Local Council of Churches in the Awutu Senya East Municipality has called on government to put sanitation measures to curb flooding and diseases outbreak as they embarked on a municipality-wide clean-up exercise across all the principal streets of Kasoa as part of celebration of this year’s Love Ghana Festival.

The exercise was aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness, raising public awareness on proper sanitation, and helping to prevent the outbreak of cholera and other sanitation-related diseases.

The initiative also encouraged residents to take responsibility for keeping their homes, markets, streets, and public spaces clean.

Speaking during the clean-up exercise, the Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, Rev. Ebenezer Saka Ameyaw, said the exercise forms part of efforts to promote a clean and healthy environment ahead of the Love Ghana Festival.

According to him, many parts of Kasoa, including the Odupong area, the Old Market, transport terminals, overhead bridge areas, and other public spaces, are heavily littered with refuse.

He warned that if urgent steps are not taken to improve sanitation, the municipality could face a cholera outbreak.

Rev. Ameyaw further noted that the refuse bins currently available in Kasoa are inadequate and too small to accommodate the volume of waste generated daily.

He therefore appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sabah Serwornoo-Banini, to provide more and larger refuse bins at strategic locations across the municipality to improve waste management.

Furthermore, the Senior Public Health Engineer for the Awutu Senya East Municipality, Gabriel Agyei Abrefa, acknowledged that poor sanitation remains a major challenge in parts of Kasoa, particularly the Odupong area.

He assured residents that the Environmental Health and Sanitation Directorate would establish a sanitation task force to identify, arrest, and prosecute individuals who indiscriminately dump refuse within the municipality.

He also urged residents to support efforts to keep Kasoa clean by disposing of waste properly and maintaining a clean environment.
