Fire Destroys Over 100 Shops At Anwona Market In The Ashanti Region

A devastating fire swept through the Anwona Market near Aful Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region, destroying over 100 shops and leaving traders with significant losses.

The fire broke out around 10 pm on January 26, 2026, and spread quickly due to the mostly wooden structures.

Traders are appealing for support as they’ve lost their properties and savings.

The incident comes barely 24 hours after a similar fire at Sofoline, destroying over 50 vehicles and shops.

The Ghana National Fire Service is yet to confirm the cause of the fire, but investigations are ongoing.

The traders are calling for urgent action to prevent future disasters and support those affected.
