GSA Cracks Down On Substandard Goods, Arrests Two Chinese Nationals And Shuts Down Manufacturing Company.

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has intensified its nationwide clampdown on substandard products, leading to the arrest of two Chinese nationals and the closure of a mattress and furniture manufacturing company near Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region.
The company, identified as 5A STAR Homes, is alleged to have used inferior materials in the production of mattresses and furniture, posing potential risks to consumers.
The operation forms part of the GSA’s ongoing enforcement exercise aimed at ensuring that manufacturers and retailers comply with approved production standards and regulations.
Officials from the Authority stormed the premises of the company during an inspection exercise, where two managers of the facility were arrested to assist with investigations into the alleged production and sale of substandard goods.
The enforcement team later proceeded to China Mall in Ashaiman, where further inspections uncovered several products suspected to have failed to meet the required standards.
Speaking to the media after the operation, the Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Ghana Standards Authority, Mr. Clement Kubati, expressed grave concern over the increasing circulation of substandard products on the market, especially within large commercial centers.
Mr. Kubati further disclosed that the Authority is prepared to pursue legal action against individuals and companies found culpable, including imposing fines and possible prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.
That was the Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Ghana Standards Authority, Mr. Clement Kubati.
