Tema Police Warns Chiefs, Priests Against Violence Ahead Of Homowo Festival.
The Tema Regional Police Command has issued a stern warning to traditional rulers, priests, and priestesses to refrain from actions that could trigger violence or disrupt public order as preparations for this year’s Homowo Festival gather momentum.
The Command said previous Homowo celebrations have been marred by clashes and confrontations over disputes regarding who has the authority to sprinkle Kpoikpoi, the traditional festive meal, resulting in injuries and breaches of the peace.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Tema, the Tema Regional Police Commander,DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, stressed that all chieftaincy disputes must be resolved through the appropriate legal and traditional processes rather than through acts of confrontation during the festival.
He assured the public that the Police Service has put in place comprehensive security measures to ensure a peaceful celebration across the Tema Metropolis.
However, he cautioned that anyone who engages in criminal activities under the guise of celebrating the festival will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Asamoah Asiedu meanwhile, DCOP Asamoah Asiedu also briefed the media on recent successes chalked up by the Command, highlighting several arrests linked to armed robbery and narcotics-related offences as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security in the region.
