One Classroom Service KG-JHS 3 And Church Building Turns Into Accommodation For Teachers.

Shortage of classroom blocks is one of the numerous problems facing the government, education ministry and various MMDAs across the country.

One would have thought this is a problem in the hinter lands and villages but the reality is that, even schools in the big towns are also struggling for more classroom blocks.

St. Joseph Catholic basic school at the heart of Nkwanta township of the Nkwanta south
municipality is facing massive classroom block deficit.

The school which relocated from their formal campus due to land issues to the premises of St. Theresa Catholic basic school are now using abandoned three unit classroom blocks for KG-JHS3.

The congestion has forced the school authorities to convert St. Ann Catholic church chapel to classrooms to accommodate JHS 1-3 making teaching and learning very difficult due to interference from various classes which makes concentration very difficult.

The massive deficit of classroom block forced the PTA to levy parents to construct an additional three unit classroom blocks to augment the existing one, unfortunately the building reached only footing level and no funds to continue the project.

*The SMC chairman, Mr. Ben Kwesi-Kumah* is therefore calling on government and all meaning Ghanaians to come to their aid to complete the project to ease the congestions.

According to him, even the existing classrooms are not fit for purpose due to the stature of the infrastructure as a temporal measure to accommodate the numbers.

With regards to teaching staff of the school, Mr. Kwesi-Kumah said, the school needs more teachers to match the number of pupils in the school.

He therefore attributed the lack of teachers to inadequate classroom blocks buttresing his point for provision of more classroom blocks.

Notwithstanding the lack of classroom blocks, the SMC chairman pleaded with the government and the municipal director of education to post more teachers to St. Joseph Catholic basic school.

Meanwhile, *Madam Osei Lucy* a parent also register her fears for their ward’s academic success in the current situation the school find itself.

According to her, the future of their wards is under treat especially the JHS students who are using the chapel as classrooms.

She therefore joined the SMC chairman and other parents to called on all and sundry to come to their aid to complete the classroom block project to secure brighter future for their wards.
