Importers And Exporters Association Of Ghana Calls For Urgent Action To Address Port Chalenges.

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana is calling on the government and agencies to review systems and interventions to address operational challenges facing businesses at the ports.

Addressing journalists in Accra, the Executive Secretary of the Association, Samson Asaki Awingobit, laments that system disruptions, security and surveillance inefficiencies, and the accumulation of empty containers, among other issues, continue to increase the cost of doing business, create uncertainty, and undermine ongoing efforts to make the country’s ports competitive.

The Association also urged the government to improve the republican AI systems and enhance technologies that will reduce corruption, revenue leakages, and arbitrary customs valuations.

The Association also urges support for GSA’s plan to implement a pre-shipment inspection and vehicle age verification program, which seeks to prevent the importation of substandard and unsafe vehicles into the country.
