Tension In Kwadaso As NDC Grassroots Wear Red Bands, Call For Removal Of MCE – “Assibey Must Go Demo”.

There was drama and heightened tension at Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region on Monday when a large number of National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders and grassroots members took to the principal streets of the constituency to demonstrate against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Eric Asibey.

The demonstrators, clad in red armbands, red headgear and holding placards with inscriptions such as “Assibey Must Go”, “No Development in Kwadaso”, “He Has Abandoned The Party”, marched through the main streets amidst chanting and drumming to register their displeasure.

According to the aggrieved NDC members, ever since Hon. Asibey assumed office as MCE for Kwadaso, the municipality has seen no significant development project.

Roads remain deplorable, sanitation issues persist, and several youth employment initiatives have stalled.

More worrying, they allege, is that the MCE has completely sidelined and rejected his own party members in the running of the assembly.

“We don’t need him as our MCE because he is the worst MCE we have ever had in Kwadaso.

He doesn’t respect party structures. He has abandoned those who worked for the party and he is doing everything alone.

There is no development,” a furious party member told our reporter.

The angry grassroots further leveled a number of serious allegations against the MCE.

They claim the government’s Nkoko Nkitinkiti program has been scandalized under his watch, alleging that out of 10,000 birds allocated to the municipality, he delivered only 3,000 birds.

They also accused him of attempting to Edwenase Lorry Terminal land for the construction of fuel stations, and harassing drivers who operate from the Sofoline terminal.

Additionally, they alleged that the recent evacuation exercise at the Kwadaso Onion Market was carried out for his own parochial interest and not in the interest of the municipality.

They further alleged that Hon. Eric Asibey is not a true member of the NDC but belongs to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is working against the interest of the party in Kwadaso.

The protesters are therefore calling on President John Dramani Mahama, the Ashanti Regional Minister and the National Leadership of the NDC to as a matter of urgency remove the MCE and replace him with a more competent, humble and development-oriented person who will unite the party and accelerate development in the area.

  • The Petition of the Aggrieved party members was received by the Deputy Constituency Organizer Hon Hakim Hammond and assured them that they will take appropriate measure to address their plight

Meanwhile, The MCE, Hon. Eric Asibey has also responded to All the allegations made against him by the grassroots.
