Salaga South MP Applauds Economic Recovery, Says Pensioners And Families Are Regaining Financial Confidence.
The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has praised the country’s improving economic conditions, arguing that recent gains are bringing renewed hope to pensioners, women, and households across Ghana.
Speaking in Parliament, the MP reflected on the difficulties experienced by retirees during the implementation of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), noting that many of those affected were women whose savings and pension incomes were significantly impacted.
She recalled the public demonstrations organized by pensioners at the Ministry of Finance and referenced the participation of former Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Sophia Akuffo, as a clear indication of the concerns surrounding the policy.
According to Hon. Zuwera, the reduction in pension incomes placed a heavy burden on many women who depended on those funds to support their families, assist their grandchildren, and maintain a comfortable standard of living in retirement.
She noted, however, that the country’s current economic stability is helping to restore confidence among families.
With inflation easing and prices becoming more predictable, households are finding it easier to plan their expenditures and enjoy recreational activities with their loved ones.
The MP said the improving economic environment allows parents and grandparents to spend quality time with their families at recreational centres and national landmarks, contributing to a better quality of life for many Ghanaians.
Commending the Finance Minister for the positive economic outlook presented to Parliament, Hon. Zuwera highlighted the country’s current inflation performance as one of the most significant achievements in recent decades.
She described the development as a remarkable milestone that reflects the effectiveness of recent economic management measures.
She urged Ghanaians to recognize and celebrate the progress made, expressing confidence that sustained economic discipline would continue to improve living conditions and strengthen household finances across the country.
