Improving Rural Healthcare Rotary Club Commissions Health Clinic For Ekukrom Residents

In a significant stride toward enhancing rural healthcare delivery, Rotary Club District 6400 has commissioned a fully renovated and equipped $40,000 health clinic for the people of Ekukrom, located in the Ajumako Enyan Esiam District of the Central Region.

The newly upgraded facility, expected to serve over 1,600 residents, marks a dramatic turnaround from its previously dire condition.

Until the intervention, the clinic lacked basic infrastructure such as a maternity ward, retention room, functional washrooms, hospital and maternity beds, and essential medical equipment.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Rotary District 6400 Governor Kimberly Spirou said the poor state of the facility deeply moved them to raise funds for its renovation.

“Nurses were delivering babies on bare wooden tables. There was no functioning lighting, the floors were riddled with potholes, and equipment like their autoclave was broken. Supplies were insufficient,” she recounted.

She described the new facility as more than just a health center, calling it “a symbol of compassion and dignity” and a testament to Rotary’s commitment to community well-being.

Spirou also emphasized the need for a strong maintenance culture to preserve the investment to achieve its intended purpose.

Very Rev. Fr. Stephen Amoah-Gyasi, Projects Manager for Rotary District 6400, urged government authorities to allocate more resources to deprived communities, particularly for their health and education infrastructure renovation purposes.

Ajumako District Health Director, Mr. Stephen Tie-Toh, commended Rotary’s timely support, noting that the clinic had long struggled to meet basic healthcare demands.

He pledged to ensure the facility is well-maintained.
