Nkyifie Literally Translates To Hating Or Abhorring Filth– Prang Traditional Authorities

The Nkyifie Yam Festival which celebrates by the people of Prang Traditional Area marked at 81 years and 60 years on his throne as a paramount chief age of Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III and having ruled for six decades as of September 2025, he is one of the most experienced and respected traditional leaders in the country.​A Reign Focused on Development and Advocacy.

Throughout his reign, Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III has been a tireless advocate for the socio-economic advancement of the Prang Traditional Area.

He has consistently leveraged his position to lobby successive governments, championing the needs of his people and attracting significant development projects.

His leadership has been pivotal in transforming the area and improving the quality of life for its inhabitants.​

Werempehene of Prang Traditional Area explore the achievement of Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III, said Creation of Pru West District, A long-held dream for the people of Prang was the creation of a separate district to accelerate local development, Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III was a foremost advocate for this cause, and his persistent efforts came to fruition on March 15, 2018, with the establishment of the Pru West District, with Prang as its capital.

At the Nkyifie Yam Festival,Nana Kwame Gyabanwu II explained the people of Prang and others that,cornerstone of Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III,his legacy is the establishment of a major starch processing factory in Prang under the government’s “One District, One Factory” (1D1F) initiative. The chief described this as the fulfillment of a personal, long-burning desire to attract industries to his area, create employment for the youth, and leave a lasting legacy.​

On the achievement of Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III, Werempehene stated that, Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III has successfully lobbied for and overseen significant improvements in local infrastructure,

He added that it includes the establishment of an ultra-modern regional office for the Department of Feeder Roads in Prang, the construction of access roads, and projects to address perennial water shortages through small-town water systems and boreholes.​

The Werempehene who spoke on behalf of Prang paramount chief, recognizing the critical need for better healthcare, Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III and his council of chiefs donated a vast tract of land, reportedly over 15 acres, for the construction of a district hospital, demonstrating the community’s readiness to partner with the government for essential services.

According to Nana Kwame Gyabanwu II,the Werempehene, under Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III watch, the Pru West District has benefited from an Agriculture Mechanization Centre, equipped with tractors and other implements to help farmers at subsidized rates, boosting the agrarian economy of the area.

National and Regional Leadership​Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III’s influence extends far beyond the borders of Prang.

His wisdom and leadership qualities saw him serve Ghana at the national level as a member of the Council of State during the administration of Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.​He has also been a prominent figure in chieftaincy affairs, having served as the President of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs.

His experience has been crucial in mediating disputes and promoting peaceful co-existence within the region.

In 2003, Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III faced a difficult period when demonstrations occurred in Prang over the government’s decision to site the capital of the then-newly created Pru District at Yeji instead of Prang,stated by the Werempehene.

The situation led to his brief involvement in a police inquiry, highlighting the intense local desire for administrative recognition that he had long championed.

His ability to navigate this period and continue to advocate for his people ultimately led to the eventual creation of the Pru West District years later.​

In his own words, as a human who is not perfect, his greatest achievement has been his ability to live peacefully with his people.

In His 60th anniversary on the throne, marked in September 2025, was a testament to the deep respect and admiration his subjects hold for him, celebrating his steadfast leadership, humility, and unwavering dedication to the progress of Prang.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, the Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs who chaired at the Nkyifie Yam Festival at Prang Traditional Area, has consistently advocated for peace and unity within the Bono and Bono East regions,

Oseadeeyo emphasizing their importance for development.

His calls for unity are a recurring theme in his public addresses at the “Nkyifie Yam Festival which celebrates by the people of Prang Traditional Area and messages to the people and the chiefs of the Bono East region.

He has stressed the importance of traditional authorities within Bono and Bono East maintaining respect and loyalty to one another to preserve the dignity and unity of the ‘Bonoman’.

He argues that without absolute peace and social cohesion, it is difficult to achieve economic progress and development in the regions, and the communities.
