Dodowa GRMA Warns Of Esalating Brain Drain, Urges Government To Improve Midwives’ Conditions Of Service

The Ghana Registered Midwives Association (GRMA) has called on the government to urgently improve conditions of service for midwives to avert the growing threat of brain drain in the health sector.

According to the National President of GRNMA, Netta Forson Ackon, the continuous departure of trained midwives in search of greener pastures could have severe implications for healthcare delivery nationwide if decisive action is not taken.

She made the appeal at the 15th Biennial General Meeting and launch of the Association’s 90th Anniversary, themed “Celebrating 90 Years of GRMA Legacy: Saving Lives, Empowering Midwives, Forging the Future.
” The meeting highlighted strategies to enhance service delivery and equip midwives with the skills needed to keep pace with the rapidly evolving health landscape.

Madam Forson Ackon noted that although health professionals have long advocated improved working conditions, little progress has been made, resulting in the continued exodus of skilled personnel.

She urged the government to prioritise the welfare of midwives to strengthen healthcare delivery in Ghana.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Robert Amessiah , encouraged midwives and nurses to remain patient and improve communication with patients to reduce tensions and enhance service delivery.

The Chief of Dodowa, Nene Okukrubour Teye Kwasi Agyemang V, also appealed to the government to provide adequate resources and ensure the welfare of nurses and midwives to boost healthcare outcomes across the country..
