GNAT Threatens Strike If Government Fails To Place Promoted Teachers On Scale By August 31.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr.Elvis Prince Biney, has revealed that teachers who have passed their promotion examinations are yet to be placed on their appropriate salary scales despite assurances from the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to him, teachers are being treated unfairly, as GES had assured them of massive improvement in their conditions of service, but nothing concrete has been done, especially regarding promotions.

He disclosed that while GES promised automatic placement and validation of salaries, those who passed their promotion exams have still not been placed on scale, leaving many teachers frustrated and demoralized.

Mr. Biney stated that the Ghana National Association of Teachers has therefore warned that if by 31st August government fails to place all qualified teachers on their rightful scales, they will embark on a nationwide strike.

He stressed that teachers have exercised enough patience and can no longer tolerate the continuous delay and neglect.

“GES gave us assurance that automatic placement will come, validation will come, and salaries will come, but those who passed their promotion exams have not been placed on scale.

If government fails to act by 31st August, we will advise ourselves,” he warned.

He called on government and the GES to act swiftly to avert any industrial action that could disrupt academic activities.
