Shama Nyankrom Youth Block Nyankrom Road, Give Authorities Two-Week Ultimatum Over Delayed Reconstruction.

Agitated youth, taxi drivers and motor riders at Shama Nyankrom have dug a trench across the badly deteriorated Shama-Nyankrom road, blocking heavy-duty trucks from accessing the Twyford-KEDA and Marco Polo Tiles and Water Closet manufacturing plants at Nyankrom.

The protesters say years of heavy-duty truck traffic have worsened the already poor condition of the road, making it difficult for commuters and residents to use.

Although they acknowledge that the blockade has disrupted operations at the factories and inconvenienced other road users, the protesters insist they had no alternative after repeated promises by authorities to reconstruct the road failed to materialise.

The protest, which began as early as 5:30 a.m., brought traffic on the road to a standstill, preventing trucks from entering the industrial enclave and affecting the movement of other vehicles.

The youth have now given the authorities a two-week ultimatum to begin serious reconstruction works on the road.

They warn that if no visible progress is made within the period, they will return to block the road again.
