Bushfires And Chainsaw Operations Disrupt ECG Services In Assin Fosu – Municipal Engineer Laments

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a stern warning to farmers and chainsaw operators whose activities are contributing to the destruction of electricity poles, particularly within the Assin Fosu Municipality.

Addressing journalists, the ECG Municipal Engineer, Mr. Raphael Yao, expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of damage to utility poles caused by bushfires and tree felling.

He noted that these activities are significantly hampering ECG’s ability to provide consistent and reliable electricity to consumers.

“One of our biggest challenges remains the rampant bushfires, especially during the dry season, which often burn our poles and disrupt power supply,” he stated.

Mr. Yao advised farmers who intend to burn vegetation near power lines, and chainsaw operators working close to ECG infrastructure, to first notify ECG authorities.

This, he said, would allow the company to implement precautionary measures to protect the poles and maintain stable electricity delivery.

He further explained that such reckless activities not only result in unexpected power outages but also lead to heavy financial losses for ECG and cause damage to appliances in homes and businesses.

Touching on efforts to improve service, Mr. Yao assured residents that ECG is actively working to extend electricity to unconnected communities.

However, he acknowledged a temporary shortage of utility poles, which is slowing down progress.

He appealed to the public for patience as steps are being taken to procure additional poles to complete the ongoing extension projects.
