Assin South DCE Cuts Sod For 24-Hour Economy Market At Assin Andoe, Urges Public Support.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Assin South, Hon. Jonathan Birikorang, has officially cut the sod for the commencement of construction of a 24-hour economy model market at Assin Andoe in the Central Region.
The project, expected to be completed within 36 months, is aimed at restoring the Assin Andoe market as a major commercial hub in the area and revitalising local economic activity.
It forms part of a nationwide initiative to establish modern 24-hour markets across all 261 districts, with the objective of boosting local economies, enhancing trade, and promoting continuous commercial operations.
Addressing residents at the ceremony, Hon. Birikorang underscored the importance of markets in driving economic growth, describing them as vital centres for the exchange of goods and the circulation of money within communities.
He noted that the Andoe market, like others under the programme, will be equipped with essential facilities such as storage warehouses, security posts, healthcare services, and food courts to support round-the-clock trading.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen the agricultural value chain by providing farmers with reliable access to markets, reducing post-harvest losses, and improving incomes.
He, therefore, urged community members, traditional authorities, and all stakeholders to support the successful implementation of the project to ensure it achieves its intended purpose.
Meanwhile, the Central Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Akwasi Dawood, who represented the Regional Minister, called on the contractor, MEC Construction Limited, to complete the project within the stipulated timeline.
He further encouraged the firm to prioritise the engagement of local artisans to create employment opportunities for the youth in the district.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Assin Andoe, Nana Kwaku Atta Banafo III, expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling his promise to construct a market for the community.
He indicated that the area is well-positioned to host additional major projects, including a fire service station or a prison facility, noting that vast tracts of land have already been made available for such developments.
Nana Banafo III further assured that the community stands ready to support the contractor to ensure the smooth execution and timely completion of the project.
