Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankawoso I Backs Introduction Of Chinese Language In Ghanaian Schools, Says It Will Boost Trade.

Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankawoso I, former President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has backed calls for the introduction of Chinese language in Ghanaian schools, describing it as a timely and strategic move to prepare students for global trade.

Speaking to News Men, Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankawoso I said he fully supports the Education Minister’s proposal to integrate Chinese into the curriculum.

According to him, the decision aligns with current economic realities where China has become one of Ghana’s and Africa’s biggest trading partners.

He explained that many Ghanaian business people and young entrepreneurs travel to China regularly to import goods, but the language barrier continues to be a major setback.

He noted that without knowledge of the Chinese language, traders are compelled to depend on interpreters, which often leads to misunderstandings, delays and increased cost of doing business.

“Currently most African countries go to China to trade. If you can’t speak their language you have to get an interpreter and that will not help you in business. Speaking directly with your partner builds trust and gives you better deals,” he stated.

Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankawoso I added that beyond trade, learning Chinese will also open opportunities for Ghanaian students in the areas of scholarships, technology transfer, tourism and cultural exchange.

He said countries that invested early in foreign language education are now reaping the benefits in diplomacy and commerce, and Ghana must not be left behind.

He further urged the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to start the program with teacher training colleges and senior high schools, so that graduates will enter the job market already equipped with both professional skills and language proficiency.
