Concerned Citizens Of Krobo Demand Immediate Re-Opening Of Nursing And Midwifery Training College; Want Principal Set Aside For Independent Audit.
The People of Krobo comprising Traditional Authorities, Leaders/Councils, Opinion Leaders and members of the Krobo Youth Connect have called for the immediate re-opening of the Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College Techiman North District of Bono East Region which was closed on Wednesday 29th July, 2026 following protests by Students demanding the removal of their Principal Dr. Mrs. Hellen Gifty Dwamena Amoah over unfair treatment and alleged mismanagement.
At a Press Conference addressed at Krobo on Monday, Leader of the Concerned Citizens of Krobo Mr. Kyeremeh Kwadwo Donkor said that having listened to the grievances of the Trainees Nurses, teaching and non-teaching Staff as well as series of events they have witnessed in the community, they side with the Students’ concern that the Principal is the problem and she must be made to step aside for an independent audit to be conducted on the issues surrounding the College.
Mr. Donkor mentioned the autocratic administrative style of Dr. Dwamena Amoah, alleged intimidation, verbal abuse, and disrespectful treatment within the College community, failure to supply uniforms, textbooks, home visiting bags, and other compulsory items despite payments made, poor feeding services despite approved feeding fees, including inadequate meals, poor food quality, and delays in food service amongst several other concerns raised by the Student body make the Principal unworthy and could collapse the school.
The Concerned Citizens of Krobo are therefore respectfully calling on His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, the Minister for Health, the Minister for Education, the Member of Parliament for Techiman-North, the Bono East Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive for Techiman-North, and the revered Traditional Authorities to urgently intervene by ensuring that the Principal is temporarily relieved of her administrative responsibilities and an independent committee thoroughly investigates all allegations and concerns surrounding the administration of the College.
For his part, Isaac Gyan Kantinka, Convener of the Concerned Citizens of Krobo added that the temporary closure of the College cannot be regarded as a lasting solution to the issues confronting the institution therefore their heartfelt appeal for academic activities to resume immediately under appropriate security arrangements to avoid further disruption of the academic Calendar particularly for final-year trainees preparing for the Nursing and Midwifery Council Licensing Examinations.
“The Youth, Parents, and the entire people of Krobo wish to state that if the appropriate authorities fail to take the necessary actions to address these concerns within a reasonable time, we shall be compelled to embark on peaceful and lawful demonstrations to demand justice, accountability, and the protection of this important national institution”.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has constituted a seven (7) committee to investigate matters concerning the unrest at the Nursing Training College, Techiman-Krobo.
The committee comprises the following members:
1. Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong – Deputy Registrar of Health Facilities Regulatory Authority, Nurse and former Dean of School of Nursing, UDS.
2. Mr. Ahmed Bennett Mumuni – Human Resource Manager of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council.
3. Nana Assah Akompanin – Chief of Krobo-Techiman
4. Mrs. Hepthzebah Gyimah – Deputy Director of Operations; Representative of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
5. Mrs. Isha Sena Iddrisu – Secretary to the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions.
6. Nashiru-Deen Akparibo – President of the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA).
7. Dr. Inua Yussuf Issahaku Esq. – Legal Director of the Ministry of Health
The Committee shall be chaired by Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong and is expected to establish the facts surrounding the issues which led to the unrest in the school, review and determine whether existing policies, code of conduct and administrative procedures have been complied with, and make recommendations to the Minister for Health for appropriate action.
The committee is further expected to submit a comprehensive report to the Minister on or before 11th August, 2026.
